Everywhere I go, I can see people clutching on to paper bags. Commercial stores are no longer using plastic bags. I am glad people are starting to make an effort in trying to preserve whatever is left of our environment. Sad that it has to emerge from an effort that is somehow "forced" into everyone but still, it is nice to see that there are entities in society who are now making an effort to move towards change.
It is truly time for change. if we still want the coming generation to breathe in fresh air and witness the beauty of nature and God's creation. Majority of my life, I resided in Manila and now that I live in Laguna, I find myself mesmerized by the sight of Maya birds frolicking within my reach. I never see this anymore in Manila. It saddens me to think that there might come a time when my children's children might never have the chance to see birds flying around. They might have to content themselves with just pictures of these creatures from the Web. That alone inspires me to take active part in the process of change that is happening. I am willing to give it a shot.
I may not always be very conscious of my acts in terms of waste management and sorting but I at least I am truly in this. We all have to take part and take action with this. We have to open our eyes and heart to the fact that although we can always blame the government and other people when we experience the ill effects of floods and landslides, we too are part to blame. At one point, we have taken part in all of this.
This is the time for change. If not for us today, at least for our children and theirs in the years to come. Let us leave them with a beautiful Earth, let us leave them with the legacy of discipline and love for the environment. It is not going to be easy, but if we are all in this together, nothing is impossible.
